As part of the ECCE LUDUS project, there is the edutainment tool, a digital tool that allows educators and young people to design, host and play escape rooms on various topics, with emphasis on STEAM related subjects.
In this article we are exploring more closely what is possible from the developer side.
Where to access the tool: https://ecceludus.eu/edutainment-tool-game/
To design and create an escape room, go under the section “Game Editor” and click to download the files. There is a tutorial video on how to create games.
Once downloaded, click on the .exe file you downloaded and the editor will start automatically. Please be aware, once you create a room you need to “host” it for people to be able to play the room, which involves you hosting it while people are playing it.
During this time you will be able to walk around in the room as well and accompany them in their journey.
The editor allows for many different functions, such as:
- How many players can play at the same time
- How long do they have to solve everything
- How many rooms are there to be solved
As well as more layout and design options of:
- Building and setting up your own furniture and objects
- Choosing between 3 main settings, incl. a medieval background, a sandy island scene, and a modern office
- Moving, turning around, and lifting objects however you want them and placing them in the setting you chose
Finally, it offers free range of puzzles:
- Enter text and content of the puzzles
- Provide clues that can be hidden in the setting among objects
- Set up an order in which the puzzles have to be solved and what the correct answers are
- Provide image and video clues: By entering URLs to the media content in the editor it will load the content into the game. You can acquire an URL through a link on the website: https://ecceludus.eu/edutainment-tool-game/ under “Game Editor”
With all these functions you can create an escape game on various topics and content, make it a vacation learning location, or a spooky medieval castle that needs escaping. Your limit is your imagination!
